Sonobana Japanese Restaurant and Grocery: Your Premier Destination for Authentic Sushi in Nashville

Very long wait for dinner on a Sunday, but good service once we were seated. Spring rolls to start were good - standard flavor with the right amount of oiliness. For sushi we had a shrimp tempura roll, Erica roll, fresh salmon roll, and a Rosie roll with cream cheese instead of avocado. All sushi was good. I dipped the shrimp tempura roll in teriyaki sauce - without it I'm not sure I would have liked it as much. The Erica roll has too many crunchies for my liking, but it wasn't bad, just won't get it again. Both the fresh salmon roll and Rosie roll were good - salmon was seemingly of nice quality. We will avoid dinner time most likely to avoid the wait, but we would come back at another time or for takeout.

I really enjoy coming to this Japanese restaurant. I come here almost every 1–2 weeks when I’m not feeling lazy, even though it’s about a 50-minute drive. The food is consistently delicious, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Every time I visit—usually on weekends—the restaurant is always busy, which really shows how popular it is. Despite that, the staff are efficient and the service is fast, so the wait time is never too long. Definitely one of my favorite Japanese restaurants and well worth the drive.

Very much enjoyed my meal! The service was prompt and friendly and the wait (10 min) was well worth it! The sushi was fresh and delicious! The menu is quite overwhelming with a lack of photos of sushi, but the two pager that accompanies is helpful! Limited drink choices, but who is going here for the drinks anyway?? Excellent sushi; sushi so good I felt like I was undercharged. The wasabi didn’t disappoint either!

First time visiting, and certainly not the last. I stopped in to try the beef Sukiyaki because I wanted a hot bowl of soup and also wanted gyudon so it was the obvious choice. It was one of the best bowls of food I have ever had. Maybe it's because it's been so long since I've had it, maybe the cold weather made it hit a little harder, and maybe I was a little excited to try a new place I've heard so much about, but if a bowl of food could be described as cozy then this is it. The hot skillet it is delivered in kept every bite warm and fresh. The broth was packed with umami flavor, the tofu stayed firm in the soup and added a great bouncy texture, and the veggies were cooked perfectly. Admittedly, the beef was overcooked, but everything else was so perfect I just didn't care. Bottom line was it made me happy, and I couldn't stop eating it. I'll be back the next week for the udon. Gochisousama deshita!

Sonobana is the BEST sushi I have ever had! It took about 10 minutes wait time to get a table. I loved the miso soup and tempura for appetizers and the green tea. I also ordered salmon avocado and nigiri sushi and some more! All of the sushi rolls were incredible! The waiter I had was so kind and amazing. I would 100% recommend coming to Sonobana!

I’ve lived all over and eaten a lot of sushi... including some of the best spots in San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, Brooklyn, Paris, and London. Sonobana stands shoulder to shoulder with them. It is hands down one of the best Japanese sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to. When I moved back to Nashville during COVID, I remembered Sonobana from years ago and decided to try it again. It completely exceeded my expectations. The fish is incredibly fresh, the quality is consistent, and everything is prepared with care. The service is outstanding, too. They recently remodeled the interior, and while it used to have more of a hole-in-the-wall feel (which I didn’t mind), it’s now cozy and comfortable. It may not be the fanciest “special occasion” spot in town - but that’s not the point. The food is amazing, the team is wonderful, and the prices are incredibly reasonable for the level of quality you’re getting. If you live in Nashville and haven’t eaten at Sonobana, you’re missing out.
